Dr. Porter has a very eclectic list of experiences prior to his deciding on Family Practice Medicine. He served in the United States Navy until 1984 after which he went to work with Microsoft designing software applications. During the years 1988 and 1991 he worked for Polar Research Labs, which required several trips to the Arctic Circle for logistics and research support. In addition he has been a fire fighter, EMT, and ran his own advertising business. In 1998 he graduated from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. He completed his residency in 2001 at Michigan State University, Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals. He is Board certified in Family Practice. Dr. Porter is a private pilot. He is a sports enthusiast, including snow boarding, wake boarding, golfing, mountain biking, and sky diving. Dr. Porter is married and has two children.
